Status
Physician review of published pages is pending as of August 25, 2026 until the reviewer's license is verified; pages show an editorial-review byline in the meantime. See the medical reviewer section.
The three-step process
1. Research team drafts with primary citations. Writers draft from PubMed-indexed trials, FDA.gov labeling and communications, and manufacturer prescribing information. Every clinical statement is footnoted to a specific source before the draft goes to review. Drafts that cite provider marketing for a clinical claim are returned.
2. Physician review. Dr. S. Somar, MD reviews the draft for medical accuracy, checks that drug information matches current FDA-approved labeling, verifies that trial figures match the published papers, flags claims that overstate the evidence, and confirms that safety guidance is consistent with current best practice. The reviewer may require changes or reject the draft.
3. Publication with badge and date. Articles that pass review are published with a "Medically reviewed" line naming the reviewer and a last-reviewed date. The date is updated on every subsequent review.
What the reviewer checks
- Doses, titration schedules and contraindications against the current prescribing information.
- Efficacy figures against the primary trial publication, including the population, duration and comparator.
- Adverse-event rates against trial tables, with rare events labeled as observational when they come from post-marketing data.
- Regulatory statements about compounding against FDA communications and the relevant sections of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.
- That no page implies compounded products are FDA-approved or clinically equivalent to approved products.
- That calculators use the stated formulas and display appropriate safety warnings.
Re-review
Health articles are re-reviewed at least annually and whenever FDA labeling changes, a major trial publishes, or a reader or clinician reports a concern. The current review date is shown on every page.
What medical review is not
Medical review confirms that content is accurate and consistent with the evidence. It is not a recommendation that any reader take any medication, and nothing on this site substitutes for a consultation with a clinician who knows the reader's history.
